dod shaul
Somtime around july 2002 ucle Shaule died in Philadelfia.
that was the end of what we call "hachlom veshivro".
they were 4 or 5 brothers and one beatiful sister Paula.
i remember Dani, David and Avram.
they arrived to Israel from Chaleb, Syria.
they had a"basta" at tel aviv market, Shuk Hacarmel.
they sold vegtables. father and his son.
Every they was a war to survive, to get the best vegtables.
they walk up at 3:30 am went to the trade vegtable market to pick up vegtables.
they worked all day long in the heat and in the cold. they would return home at 9pm.
mother would serve dinner.
they lived in the neighbourhood of the natush misgad chasan beck. an old arab house.
it brought memories from chleb. they left without lookinmg back. history of a family suddenly vanished.
i never new how he two of thm met.
my sisyer pnina, pesi, was an excellent student of mathe maics in ironi daled, one of israel's best high schools.
shaul never finished elementry. she was askenaz and he was sefardic.
the one thing they had in common is that they both came from poor families.
they had a wedding,in the most happening club, zorba in yefet st. aris son performed.
it was the first time i heard him live.
i remember i did not like it.
shaul's sister looked great.
the guests, they went crazy, beatiful sexy wemen. paula
i never felt like this before, i have nebver been t a near arabic, sefardic weding before.
women shouted, moved the different parts of their bodies wildly, i felt i cpuld come, right there.
they did not have the monry to celebrate but they could not resist the temptation.
later they moved to america, i remember when shaul first came to pick up pnina, my mother looked behind the window trying to see what her daughter got, er ez fum unzere or fumyenerem,
translation; is he belong with us ashkenaz or the others, who don't deserve us.
there was no doubt, altaugh he was gingi, you could immediately tell, he is fum yenerem,
a chvachze'.
she went to the army for a short while and immediatly got married.
this was the only way she could go away from the basement where we lived. hpefully to a better place.
trying o release herself from memories of parents and 2 little twins born in germany after second world war to a pair of mebulbalim survivers.
when they lived at chasan beck near gan hacovshim i used to visit.
they would bring tchina with red hot tomatos on top fromthe other side of the road.
what a taste, what a smell. i was nwver beforee aware such taste exist.
paula married Goldi, later they said he is on of the 11 people controling israeli organaised crime.
when ever pnina came to visit israel police would wait and make a search since she was a relative of goldi.
